About Us Armagh Retrievers specializes in the training of retrievers for both hunting and competitive field events. We have successfully trained retrievers for American Kennel Club (AKC) field trial and hunt test competitions. Our dogs have competed at the Master Nationals, as well as in licensed field trials. They are also fully trained to be good hunting companions, good citizens, and of course, great family pets. We believe in and practice humane training techniques that allow the dogs to reach their maximum potential. Pat Hanlon began training retrievers in 1994 when he bought his first hunting dog. Under the guidance of Dennis Brath of Cadens Kennels in Wisconsin, Pat became an accomplished amateur trainer and handler. While starting with gun dogs, Pat was introduced to retriever competitions and became hooked. Having coached hockey for 15 years, the transition to training dogs was made easily as he took his passion for teaching and turned it to working with retrievers. Pat has competed and titled dogs at all levels of the AKC hunt test program, including the Master Nationals, where he has a dog in the Master National Hall of Fame. Pat has trained and handled dogs to Open, Derby and Qualifying wins and placements. Pat has also placed a dog in the National Derby list in AKC licensed field trials. Pat's professional affiliations include the Professional Retriever Trainers Association (PRTA) and Team TriTronics. Read Our published article in Gun Dog Magazine!
